Free VTuber Rigging Software: Morfous Avatar Video Calls

Free VTuber rigging software doesn't need to mean complicated or expensive. Morfous is a browser app that rigs your 3D avatar in real time—your camera drives the character's face and expressions, and optional hand tracking mirrors your arms. No downloads, no monthly fees, just open a link and go live.

How the Rigging Works

Your camera feed controls the avatar. As you move your head, smile, frown or raise your eyebrows, the character copies those movements in real time. Your mouth syncs to your voice automatically. If you add optional arm and hand tracking, your real hands and arms appear as the character's hands and arms.

You can also skip the camera entirely—a buttons mode lets you move the character by pressing keys while you talk and type, useful if you want to stay off camera or move around freely.

What Avatars You Can Use

Start with one of the ready-made characters and customize them, or upload your own. You can:

  • Build an avatar from a single photo of yourself in the Character Creator
  • Upload a VRM or GLB file, including VRoid avatars
  • Use one of the built-in cartoon characters

Your avatars live on your device, not on a server, so you keep full control. See the pages about VRM avatars and how to make a VTuber avatar if you want to design something custom.

Expressions and Reactions Beyond Rigging

If you want to switch your character's face without moving your head, use expression keys to jump between neutral, happy, angry, sad, relaxed and surprised. A reactions menu adds quick facial changes—paired with sparkle and heart effects that play on camera.

Voice effects let you pitch-shift or change your tone, so your character's voice can sound different from your own. Backgrounds and framing options help you compose the shot the way you want it.

Connecting to Streams and Video Calls

Morfous works as a standalone video call app—share a link or your Morfous number with someone and start talking. Built-in chat handles text, links and images.

You can also pipe your avatar into Zoom, Google Meet or Discord, so the character appears in any existing video call or stream. This works on laptop or phone, and nothing installs—it runs entirely in your browser.

What This Software Is and Isn't

Morfous is made for live character video calls and streams. It handles real-time rigging and expression control without setup. It is not a full character design tool—if you need to build a complex VTuber model from scratch, you'll want dedicated 3D software. See the page about VTuber models for more on that.

The rigging is automatic and immediate. You don't tweak bones or IK chains. You move, the avatar moves.

Cost and Who Made It

Morfous is free. No premium tier, no ads, no signups required to start. A small team in Phoenix, Arizona built and maintains it. Your characters and files stay on your device—nothing is sent to a server.
